First Financial Bancorp (Nasdaq: FFBC) reported net income of $76.5 million, or $0.73 per diluted share, for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. On an adjusted basis, earnings per diluted share reached $0.80, the highest in company history. Dividend Increase and Acquisition
The Board of Directors approved a quarterly dividend increase to $0.26 per common share, payable on September 15, 2026, to shareholders of record as of September 1, 2026. This marks a continuation of the company's dividend growth trend.
First Financial also announced an agreement to acquire Finward Bancorp (Nasdaq: FNWD), the holding company for Peoples Bank, in an all-stock transaction. The acquisition is expected to expand First Financial's market presence and generate cost synergies.
Management Commentary
President and CEO Archie Brown noted that adjusted net income of $83.9 million was a record, driven by organic loan growth and recent acquisitions. He highlighted stable net interest margins near 4.00% and expected continued loan production in the third quarter. Fee income was below expectations due to lower foreign exchange and swap income, but expenses declined materially from the linked quarter, aided by acquisition-related synergies. Asset quality remained stable with declining net charge-offs.
What it means for income investors
The dividend increase to $0.26 per share reflects First Financial's strong earnings and capital position. With a history of consistent payouts and a growing loan portfolio, the company offers a stable income stream. The pending acquisition of Finward Bancorp may provide additional growth opportunities, though integration risks remain.
